Day 3: The Lag
Just when you think you’ve escaped, it gets you. I thought I’d cleverly avoided the jet lag by arriving late and drugging myself to sleep—and it really seemed I had! But today, I could barely move. Partially from surfing soreness, but mostly from exhaustion. Still, after a lazy breakfast, I forced myself to repeat the exercises from last weekend’s training session. I must do Priya and Andrea, my fellow Kansan and trainer, proud.
Post-workout, I absconded back to the shaded poolside lounges to power through the rest of Prep. Between chapters, I slid into the pool and watched a couple filming TikTok dance challenges on the beach.
After several hours, the combination of heat, dehydration despite constantly drinking water, and a heavy fog slowly settling over my brain forced me back to my room and by five p.m., after an hour of watching It’s Okay Not to be Okay (lol) I was out.
